Foreshocks

I’ve never been a fan of crime documentaries. They just don’t appeal to me. To be honest, I’ve always found commentary on disasters, car wrecks, or gruesome crimes to be ghoulish at best. It’s one thing to slow down and rubber neck for a split second when you’re passing a car wrapped around a pole, it’s quite another to do a play by play of how someone’s tibia is poking out of their skin while your buddy is filming you for posterity, or in the hops of going viral.

This is the path we’ve chosen, this is the road we walk, and any commentary on the matter would be superfluous. There are plenty of others out among the interwebs who are chomping at the bit to say something about something just for the sake of saying it, but I’m not one of them.

Just remember, all that follows could have been averted had we humbled ourselves as a nation, and sought repentance. No, I’m not trying to rub salt in the wound, I’m just trying to remind anyone flirting with bitterness towards God that it’s not God’s fault. What follows is a direct consequence of our actions as a nation. We chose this! Life and death, good and evil were placed before us, and as a nation we made a choice. We knew the consequences, because the Bible spells it out clearly enough that even a dullard could understand the broad strokes of it all.

The only worthwhile advice I have to give is to steel yourself, or as the Old Testament is fond of saying, gird up your loins. What we are seeing both in this nation and throughout the world are just the foreshocks before the foreshocks that will herald the true shaking. If this is all it takes to rattle us, if this is all it takes to start talking about bowls and seals and the end being a breath away, it just proves that we haven’t done our due diligence, and do not as yet realize how bad it’s going to get on this spinning rock.

I wish it were not so. I have daughters I want to see grow up and start families of their own, but I know that by the time they come into adulthood this world will be a very different place than what it is today, just as today’s world is very different than what it was a few years ago.

What few are accounting for is the increase in velocity as we continue the downward spiral. We’re not descending at the same rate we were when the spiral started. With each revolution we speed up just a little more, because that is the natural order of things, and no amount of wishful thinking will change it.

Stay calm and carry on, knowing that you are safe under the shadow of His wing! That is perhaps the best piece of advice you will receive this week, perhaps even this year. I know, not bombastic, not exciting, I’m not sending you out in your backyard to dig a hole, or to buy a one-way ticket to the Amazon, but sometimes the best advice is common sense.

There is no escaping what’s coming upon the earth. There is nowhere you can go; there’s no hole deep enough you can dig, so just breathe, fellowship with God, be rooted in the Word, and trust that He’s got the whole world in His hands. If it is so, that includes you too!

With love in Christ,

Michael Boldea Jr.
