The Holy Spirit: Power Presence and Purpose Part 7

The Godhood of the Holy Spirit Part 1

It is with undeniable clarity that the Bible also presents us with the fundamental truth that the Holy Spirit is God, or more precisely an integral part of the triune God. From the names or titles that the Bible shows us can be attributed to the Holy Spirit, to the divine attributes of the Holy Spirit, the godhood of the Holy Spirit is undeniable.

There are certain titles attributed to the Holy Spirit throughout Scripture that reflect and highlight the relationship between Him, and the other Persons of the Trinity. The relationship between God the Holy Spirit and God the Father is expressed primarily via two names that have been attributed to the Holy Spirit, ‘the Spirit of God’ and ‘the Spirit of the Lord.’

Matthew 3:16, “Then Jesus when He had been baptized, came up immediately from the water; and behold the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.”

1 Samuel 10:10, “When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.”

As previously mentioned there are two titles, or two names that have been attributed to the Holy Spirit that highlights the relationship between Him and God the Father, and the fact that in purpose they are one, the first being the Spirit of God, the second being the Spirit of the Lord.

Judges 3:10, “The Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel.”

Although the story of judge Othniel, the man upon whom the Spirit of the Lord came is an interesting one, I wanted to include this passage, and the passages to follow, that you might see this second title of ‘the Spirit of the Lord’ being used not only on the Old Testament, but in the New Testament as well.

2 Samuel 23:2, “The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue.”

Acts 8:39, “Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.”

2 Corinthians 3:17, “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

There are also other references to the Holy Spirit that reveal the intimate and intricate relationship between God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit. Whenever God speaks in the first person in the Bible, and uses the term ‘My Spirit’ it is the Holy Spirit that He is referring to.

Matthew 12:18, “Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased; I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He will declare justice to the Gentiles.”

The relationship between God the Son and God the Holy Spirit is also clearly outlined within the pages of the New Testament, revealing the symbiotic nature of the Trinity. To remove one of the three Persons of the triune God, is to attempt to minimize or limit the work thereof, and by so doing beginning to fashion a deity of our own making.

Yes, the Holy Spirit, and the work thereof are important for us to know, precisely because the Word of God speaks of Him often in various ways, and by His various titles. To discount such an important part of our faith, to dismiss such an important part of who God is, is utter foolishness if not outright madness.

Before we end today’s post, I want to go through a few of the titles or names that the Holy Spirit carries that also attest and confirm His Godhood.

Beyond being identified as the Comforter, and the Helper, the Holy Spirit has also been identified within the pages of Scripture as the Spirit of holiness, the Spirit of grace, the Spirit of glory, the Spirit of truth, the Spirit of life, the Spirit of adoption, and the eternal Spirit.

Romans 1:1-6, “Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, through whom we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name, among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ.”

Hebrews 10:29, “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?”

1 Peter 4:14, “If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.”

Romans 8:2, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”

Romans 8:15, “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, Abba, Father.”

Hebrews 9:13-14, “For if the blood of bulls and goats and ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

More could be said on the names or titles of the Holy Spirit, and how they demonstrate and prove His godhood, or divine nature, but just the scripture passages that we’ve quoted thus far ought to solidify this truth in your heart. Tomorrow we continue with the divine attributes of the Holy Spirit, from there, to the symbols representing the Holy Spirit, then we will get into the specificities of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the importance of the day of Pentecost, and as much as the Lord would give.

As I said at the beginning of this journey, this will not be a light walk, it will be a marathon, but the topic of the Holy Spirit has been neglected for far too long, and in times such as these we need His presence, His guidance, and His gifts more than ever before.

With love in Christ,

I find it interesting that with the great time, research, and effort, you have expended into this topic, as taken from scripture, you choose to use unbiblical terms, i.e. "triune", "god the son", and "god the HS"? The teaching of the "godhead(Strong's G2304)" is not an easy topic, but we need to allow scripture to interpret scripture, and ask the Lord for greater revelation concerning Him, which, I believe, He is doing for those who love the Truth and not tradition. The Bride MUST know who He His before she can be joined with Him for eternity!! Let us all stay this course courageously in Him.

Very very good essential teaching, thanks for pressing on and writing about the Holy Spirit.

You mention that the Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity.

The Trinity doctrine came through the Roman Catholic Cult and was instituted as official Roman Catholic doctrine in the year 327 at the Nicean council.

Before the year 327 there was no official Trinity doctrine. Jesus never taught Trinity, the apostles never taught Trinity, the early church for the first three centuries knew nothing of a Trinity nor did they teach it.

How is it that Christ never taught this doctrine nor did any of His apostles teach it and the word Trinity is never mentioned in the bible, but yet you teach it?

It is of the religious Harlot False Church system.

Just think for a moment. The doctrine never existed officially until the year 327, how could it be from God?

Do you not believe in your own heart that if Christ wanted to be defined as the second person in the Trinity that He would have told us this in His own teachings rather than have the great whore Mystery Babylon teach us this false doctrine 327 years later?

There are truths found within the Trinity doctrine such as the three are one, but there are also falsehoods hidden within it like the three are co-equal in authority. Jesus himself said that the Father is greater than I and that He submitted His will to the Father and that he did the will of the one who sent Him, the Father was in authority over Christ and has authority to send him.

You are teaching the doctrine of the other Jesus the scriptures warn us about...the Jesus of the Roman Catholic Whore Church. The Jesus who is the second person of the Trinity, born on December 25th (birthday of Tammuz) and resurrected on Easter Sunday. Eashteroth day the Goddess of fertility.

This is the other Jesus the word of God warns us about...the Roman Catholic Jesus!

To anonymous,
I never intimated that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are co-equal in authority, only that all three are one, and all three are God.
Yes, Jesus submitted to the will of the Father, and came to do the Father's will, but it was also Jesus who said, 'all authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.' Matthew 28:18-19
Other than the term 'triune' which is a fitting term and the best way one can describe God in three persons, Jesus does make it clear that there are three Persons working together that make up the Godhead.
We see this truth in the very words of Jesus when He said, 'And I will pray to the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows HIm; but you know Him, fo rHe dwells with you and will be in you.' John 14:16-17
Within two verses we see the Christ, Jesus, praying to the Father God, to send the Helper the Holy Spirit.
No, I am not a 'oneness Pentecostal' I don't believe that when Jesus was praying to the Father He was praying to Himself just wearing a different hat. Jesus neither had multiple personalities, nor was He a schizophrenic, so when He cried out 'Eli Eli Lama Sabachtani' He wasn't talking to Himself.
One last note, no, I don't believe Jesus was born on December 24th. Just to clear that up.

Dear Michael, Jesus was not a schizo, but He was both God and man(The Son of Man). He was//is our Prototype. When we are born again The Process, if we allow it, begins, to change us into His image and likeness. The WORD was penned by man, but is totally inspired and GOD breathed. Jesus was The WORD(plan, Truth,Way,Life) that BECAME flesh(Pr8b). Xp was the "crosshairs", if you will, that The Father was sighting through at Creation. As for the H.S., Isn't God the Father Spirit and Holy? Try putting aside the traditional terms used to explain the Godhead and allow His Word and Spirit guide you, and me, into all Truth. Love you brother. Doug
