A Happy Thanksgiving

Psalm 107:1-9, “Oh, give thanks to the Lord for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, and gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and form the south. They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way; they found no city to dwell in. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distress. And He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city for habitation. Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

With love in Christ,

Thanksgiving is meant to remind us of how God provided for the Christian pilgrims in a strange and dangerous land by providing the Indians who showed them how to plant and survive. I wonder how man give thanks to God for his faithfulness and the Indians for being welcoming and supportive nature. All you hear about is gathering family, meeting friends, festivities, shopping, turkey and sides, and maybe football. None of that is spiritually uplifting.

Obese people run to get their charity turkey dinners so that people can feel good about spreading the love of giving out dead factory farmed birds and chemically enhanced packaged rolls. If you are not on top of your game in this world, it can be a hard holiday to deal with if you lose sight of its spiritual implications.

Thanking God for his faithfulness helps to nourish the spirit.
